Third quarter run lifts No. 2 Millbrook past No. 12 Heritage


Heritage lead after one period, and inched back within three points of Millbrook in the third quarter, but an 11-0 run moments later propelled the Wildcats to an 85-67 victory.

Junior forward Will Felton shined on Tuesday night as his 30 point, 13 rebound effort allowed Millbrook to battle back and ultimately pull away in the second half.

The Wildcats jumped out to an early six point advantage only to see the Heritage race back to establish a 20-16 lead through one.

Lucas Taylor put an exclamation point on an 11-1 Husky run to end the period with a steal and one-handed slam.

Felton tallied 13 of his 22 first half points in the second quarter. Zach Miller sunk a three-point basket with 4:40 left in the second to tie the score at 25-25.

Millbrook ended the stanza on a 12-4 run after Chris Daniels pulled up and downed a shot from the free-throw line to give the Wildcats their only double figure lead of the second half.

The Huskies came out of the halftime break hot.

Jalen Rochelle navigated his way to the hole for two to close the gap to 42-39 with 6:24 remaining in the third.

Three Wildcat dunks headlined an ensuing 11-0 run to put the game out of reach.

Millbrook lead 61-47 after three and scored 24 points in the fourth quarter to win by 18.

Felton’s 30 point effort helped him to his 16th career double-double. Jalen McCoy scored 14 points and Eric van der Heijden added 10.

Heritage was paced by Redford Dunton’s 17 points and Taylor’s 15. The Huskies shot 9-23 from beyond the arc and 75% at the free throw line.

Millbrook is now 1-0 overall this season. The Wildcats host Garner on Thursday.

Heritage falls to 0-1, the Huskies will travel to Broughton on Thursday.
