Millbrook travels to Wakefield on Tuesday night in search of its first road win of the season. Below is all that you need to know about the contest.
Location: Wakefield HS
Time: 7:00 PM (Junior Varsity at 5:30 PM)
Head-to-Head: Tuesday night will mark the 39th all-time meeting between these two schools. Millbrook has won the last 11 meetings against the Wolverines dating back to January 25th, 2011 when the Wildcats fell to Wakefield 60-57 in overtime.
These two programs met over the summer in Greensboro at the State Games of North Carolina. Millbrook jumped out to an early lead but, the Wolverines staged a 17-8 fourth quarter run to send the game to overtime where Phillip Burwell would down the eventual game-winner with 47.2 second left in extra time to lift the Wildcats to an 85-83 victory.
Last time that these teams met in the regular season, Campbell University's Jordan Whitfield poured in a career-high 39 points, falling two points short of tying Chris Clemons' school record for most points scored in a game. Wakefield kept the game close, trailing by only two heading to the fourth quarter, 45-43. Millbrook used a 30-point fourth period to take home the 75-63 win.
What To Watch For: Millbrook comes off of its first loss of the season, a late defeat at Heritage last Thursday night. Burwell posted a career-best 17 points for a second consecutive game, and Matthew McIntyre came off the bench to contribute a career-high 13 points scored. The Wildcats held a 32-19 lead at the break but Heritage stormed back, scoring 50 second-half points en route to a 69-65 win.
Behind The Numbers: Since losing six consecutive games from November 27th through December 14th in 2010, Millbrook has only suffered three losing streaks, both of the two game variety. Once at the 2012 Upward Classic in Spartanburg, SC, once in February of 2013, and one two-game losing streak last season at Wake Forest and Leesville. The 2013 losing streak came to the same two opponents.
Wakefield enters tonight's game with a 2-0 record.
