Christopher Davis Named Head Men’s Basketball Coach

RALEIGH, NC – After a month long interview process that consisted of 27 applicants, Christopher Davis has been named the Head Varsity Men’s Basketball Coach at Millbrook High School. Davis takes over the program with 21 years of high school basketball coaching experience under his belt, the last 16 have been spent as an associate head coach and head junior varsity coach at Millbrook.

Davis guided the Wildcat JV squad from 2001-2013, finishing first place in the conference nine times. He returned to the sideline for the 2016-17 season to help Millbrook post a 14-7 record, 11-2 in the Cap-8 Conference. The Wildcats ended the season with a bevy of media buzz after Davis played special needs student Jayvin Talley, and saw him register points in each of Millbrook’s final two JV games.

As Millbrook’s associate head coach, Christopher helped lead the Wildcats to 16 playoff appearances, nine regular season conference championships, seven regional appearances, six conference tournament championships, and one state championship appearance.

Prior to his time at Millbrook, Davis was an assistant coach at Leesville Road High School, and the head coach of Leesville Road Middle School. In his final year with the Pride, Davis played an integral role in Leesville Road’s run to its first state championship appearance in school history.

The AAU basketball circuit is where Davis, a graduate of Enloe High School and North Carolina State University caught his big break. Starting as an AAU coach in 1992, Davis found himself coaching in the 17U AAU National Championship by 1999 with the Raleigh Heat, a club headlined by Shavlik Randolph.

Randolph, along with Eric Williams, Anthony Richardson, JJ Redick, Michael Thompson, Matt Walsh, and Sean Dockery have all gone from playing under Davis to appearing in the McDonald’s All-American Game. By the end of this school year, it’s expected that eight of Davis’ nine Wake County Basketball Association players will sign to play collegiately including Donté Tatum, Connor Crabtree, Patrick Dorsey, and Ian DuBose.

Under the tutelage of Davis, 44 former Wildcats have moved on to play at the next level. The list includes Dayton Women’s Basketball Assistant Simon Harris, former NBA D-Leaguer Tyrrel Tate, the NCAA’s third leading scorer from this past season Chris Clemons, and nine other alumni who have played either Division-I football or basketball.

Christopher Davis becomes the 13th head coach at Millbrook since 1945, and the fourth in the last 30 seasons (Chet Mebane, Dexter Cooley, Scott McInnes). The Wildcats kick off its 84th basketball season on Tuesday April 4th with the beginning of spring workouts. Information on workouts will be distributed to prospective student athletes on April 3rd at 2:30 PM.
