The Millbrook Men’s Basketball Program stayed undefeated on the season with a pair of pre-Thanksgiving victories on the road at Apex. The Junior Varsity Wildcats battled back in the second half to pull out a 60-52 win, and the Varsity team followed with a 69-54 victory over the Cougars.
The JV Wildcats struggled to get things going early as Apex held a 29-13 advantage at halftime. Sam Hood lead Millbrook in scoring at the break after going 3-4 from the field with 6 points. Parker Swisher also added a three-point basket in the first half.
The tides turned in the second half as the Wildcats continued to chip into the Cougar advantage. Down 42-30 with 45.4 seconds left in the third quarter, Tyler Gill snapped an 0-10 showing from the field by taking a Bradley Williams pass coast-to-coast to cut the deficit to ten, then followed with a long three to get things back to single-digits heading to the fourth quarter where Millbrook would proceed to out-score Apex 23-8 for the 60-52 victory.
Tyler Gill managed to pour in a team-high 16 points for the Wildcats, with Martez Martin pitching in with another 10. Jai McRae, and Andrei George also scored 8 points apiece in the winning effort.
Millbrook JV is now 2-0 on the season, they will host Garner on Wednesday November 30th in their home opener.
Varsity kept to good times rolling as Patrick Dorsey sunk a three point basket off the opening tip, and the Wildcats never trailed from there.
Dorsey, and Landon Lee combined to go 7-11 from the beyond the arc in the first half as Millbrook established a 22-point lead going into halftime.
Dorsey was so hot coming out of the break, that the fire alarms in the school went off following his 20th point of the night. After both teams were forced to evacuate the school for seventeen minutes, play resumed and behind an eventual career-high 27 points from Dorsey, and 12 from Jabari Brown, the Wildcats were able to pull away with a 69-54 win to move to 3-0 on the season.
Millbrook managed to cash in on 48% of their shots from downtown in the victory. Landon Lee added 9 points for the Wildcats, and Chase Fowler scored 6. Millbrook is back in action on November 30th when they welcome Garner to town for a 7:00 PM endowment game. The Trojans bounced the Wildcats from the playoffs last year with a thrilling 92-88 win in the regional semi-final.
Millbrook, who trailed in the game by as many as 19 points was able to come back to establish a late lead, only to see it slip away in the final moments of action. Admission is $5 to Wednesday’s game at Millbrook.
