The early returns for coach Scott McInnes have been nothing but positive as the Wildcats wrapped up their preseason slate with a perfect 4-0 record following a 97-76 victory over private school powerhouse, Greenfield School.
“There is definitely a lot that we can work on as a team but it’s always good when you can come out on top against some really good talent, even in a scrimmage” said McInnes.
Millbrook started their preseason with a clean sweep of the 2016 Phenom Hoop Report Jamboree in Greensboro, NC. The Wildcats started their day with a ten point victory over Mount Tabor behind 14 points from Patrick Dorsey, and 10 from Adrian Scarborough. Millbrook started the game on a 15-0 run, and never looked back for the victory.
Game two at Proehlific Park saw Millbrook battle adversity for the first time in the early season as United Faith Christian clung to a 21-20 lead at the half. On the strength of a suffocating full-court press, the Wildcats took the lead right back, and added on 31 points in the final stanza en route to the 51-35 win. Dorsey once again lead the team in scoring with 11 points, but sophomore guard Collin Lewis trailed right behind him with 10, and a pair of charges.
The Wildcats concluded the opening road trip of their preseason with another ten point victory, and another stellar showing from Patrick Dorsey. Against Kings Mountain High School, Dorsey lit up the scoreboard to the tune of 25 points in the first half, and 31 points in the game on the strength of 7 three-pointers. Millbrook was victorious, 58-48 and the 6’5 senior finished the day with an average of 18.7 points per contest.
Dorsey stayed hot three nights later in the victory at the Greenfield School when he poured in a team-high 26 points, and 8 three pointers. Four different Wildcats scored in double figures as Jordan Whitfield added 18 points, Adrian Scarborough collected 13, and Chase Fowler posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Gee Kalejaiye also shined for Millbrook in Wilson that night as he turned in 9 points and 6 rebounds in his first action of the preseason.
Millbrook opens up the regular season on Thursday, November 17th against Knightdale High School in the inaugural HighSchoolOT.com Triangle Tip-Off Tournament at Millbrook. Tip-Off begins at 7:30 PM, and admission is $5. The winner of the game will advance to the tournament championship on Saturday evening to play the winner of Southern Durham vs. East Chapel Hill.
