Whitfield silences Enloe 104-68

The day after Groundhog Day is turning to something out of the movie "Groundhog Day" for the Millbrook Men's Basketball team. On Wednesday night, they defeated Enloe 104-68, the win came exactly one year to the day of a 104-66 win against Wakefield.

Enloe (3-16, 2-9) came out firing. Following a timeout 20 seconds into the game, the Eagles went on a 10-4 run that was sparked by an early dunk from Niquan Cousins. He and 6'5 Victor Chambers would use their athletic ability to clean the glass in the first half to keep the game within single digits much longer than anybody would have thought.

It took awhile but shots started to fall for the Wildcats, who would shoot less than 50% from the field in the first half. On two occassions, Millbrook downed pairs of three's to extend a single digit lead to double figures, once from Jordan Whitfield, who had 18 points in the first half, and then two three's from the right hand of Patrick Dorsey. Millbrook would take a 54-39 lead into the half. Last time the two teams squared off, Enloe was only able to muster 37 points in the whole game.

What seemed like a lackluster first half, turned into a thrilling second half of play. Faison Brock, who had 9 rebounds at halftime, picked up a double-double in exciting fashion as he slammed home a put back dunk on a Whitfield miss. Brock finished with 19 points, and 13 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season.

Whitfield wasn't done adding on to his 18 point night. He pulled up a step in front of the arc, and downed a long two, then he rattled home his fifth three of the game to close out a 23 point, 9 assist performance that tied his season high in points scored.

Millbrook led 77-48 going to the 4th Quarter, and they were just heating up. Patrick Dorsey went into halftime with a pair of three's and 8 total points. He followed his 12 point showing at Wakefield the night before with 18 points on this night as he downed three more triples, and added a free throw. He, and Trejon Jacob would combine to score 23 points in the last 11 minutes of the game. Jacob headed into the locker room at half with only 4 points but he too found his stroke from downtown late, by hitting two three's to get the Wildcats past the 90 point plateau for only the third time this season.

Adrian Scarborough finished with 8 points, and he would get the 'Cats to the 99 point mark following the second of two three point plays for the 6'2 sophomore. Tyler Green cut into the 99-65 lead with his fourth three of the game. Green, a junior, was one of two Eagles to score over 20 points in the contest. Victor Chambers led the team in scoring with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

CJ Thompson would seal the deal at the end by hitting 5 of his 6 late free throws. The first make at the charity stripe got the Wildcats past the elusive century mark for the first time this season. Last year, Millbrook was able to eclipse 100 points on three occasions, the last time coming in the 4A Eastern Regional semi-final when they set the record for points scored in a regional with 104 points.

With the win, the Wildcats continue to add on to the best start in school history at 19-1, 10-1. Last year's 104 point game on February 3rd was proceeded with a 118-88 win against Heritage, and that's who Millbrook has on Friday at home. The Huskies are the only team to have defeated the Wildcats this season doing so, 96-85 on January 8th. Tip-off from the Wildcat Gymnasium is at 7:00 PM, the theme is a Bright Out sponsored by Chick-Fil-A. The first 200 Millbrook Maniacs in attendance wearing a 2015-16 CFA Bright Out shirt will receive a coupon for free Chick-Fil-A Breakfast.
