Millbrook's JV Wildcats found themselves in the Athens Drive JV Holiday Tournament Championship for a second consecutive season. Much like 2014, Coach Ledford's 'Cats fell victim to Garner Magnet High School in the tournament's final game.
Collin Lewis led Millbrook in the 64-47 loss with 14 points. The Trojans got up early, and never looked back as a 4-13 first quarter streak from the field buried the now 8-1 Wildcats. Lewis and fellow guard, Shawntay Mills combined for 10 of the team's 19 first half points. Branden Pierce added 7 second half points to chip into the Garner lead, that inflated to as much as 31 points in the third quarter.
Lewis, who scored 23 points in the Southern Alamance JV Holiday Tournament Championship game vs. Garner last week as a member of the Millbrook Freshman team, scored 10 in the second half by going 3-5 from the field. Over the course of the three day Athens Drive tournament the 5'10 freshman averaged 7.0 PPG which was second on the team in during that span. He also took a charge in the loss on Wednesday night.
Jabari Brown added 6 points in the championship, to bring his tournament average to a team leading 9.1 PPG. He led Millbrook in scoring with 11 points each in Round 1 and 2 of the tournament. The JV Wildcats squeaked by Green Hope, 45-42 in the tournament opener, before taking the second game handidly from the host school, and third place finisher, Athens Drive by a score of 52-28.
Millbrook (8-1, 3-0) is back in action on Monday evening when they travel to Wakefield to battle the Wolverines at 7:00 PM.
